USB Flash Drive Capacity Issues

uMBP 2.4/4GB/250GB; iPhone 3GS
So I noticed that my small 2 GB flash drive gets smaller and smaller every time I add something (obviously). The problem is when I delete a file, the space it was taking up is still unavailable. The only way to regain the space is to format the flash drive. Any thoughts?

You need to empty Trash with the flash drive attached to free up the space.
