I currently have a maxtor one touch 250 gb external but i want to buy a 1 tb drive that has the capabilities of being a wireless access point. is this possible or did i make something up?

I looked up the My Book for Western Digital and the LaCie hard disk. Are these two good 1 tb external drives?

thanks in advance.

I am not aware of such a device except for Apple's Time Capsule that would fulfill the duties of both an external hard drive and a router.

The ethernet port found on external hard drives provides a wired connection to your router or computer via ethernet. They do not have provide wireless access.

To do what you want in lieu of the Time Capsule, you'll need to purchase a wi-fi router and an external hard drive. You can save maybe $100 doing this vs the Time Capsule if you're purchasing a decent router, more with a cheapie router.

The reason why Time Capsule is more expensive...is because it does what you want it to do. The majority of external hard drives are just storage devices...NOT wireless connections.
