Hey, I don't know if it is just the specs of my Mac in particular or not, but is OS X 10.6 slower than 10.5 to anyone else?

Try running it in 64-bit.

Not here on my Modded Mac Mini with a 2.16C2D CPU. Everything is faster and sometimes to a very large degree.

Haven't noticed any slow downs either on my 2.0 or the 2.33Ghz machines.

Not noticed many speed increases either except in Aperture while showing of thumbnails and scrolling through Library.

The first thing I noticed about SL was my machine was running faster.

It's definitely not slower but not greatly faster either. I've noticed a much quicker shutdown for when I need to shutdown my MB and a few speed bumps here are there but no slowdowns.

What in particular are you noticing as much slower?

Hi - Signed up just to post a response. I've been helped multiple times by this forum; thanks for that.

I have noticed some slow downs for sure. For one, there seems to be a tiny bit of latency. Mostly when using firefox or iTerm or anything else that polls frequently. Ive got no data on why, but there is for sure a change in response time for some of the apps I use. I had textpad crash on a search/replace of maybe 400 lines. No clue on the cause of that either but Ive been doing it for months with no problems before the update.

My MBA (2nd gen) also takes a much longer time to wake from suspend. Granted only 2-5 seconds longer, but it used to be almost instant. I very rarely shut down the machine so any advances in that matter little to me.

Another huge blunder for me was the JVM. I use aptana/eclipse for work and after upgrading 1.2 was no longer working. 1.5 does but there is a whole load of problems with it.

In general I like updates to correct problems. The 7gigs or whatnot of space was a serious bonus. Id give 7gigs for the latency to go away.

I got serious latency while typing this. The display will stop showing text and then do a large dump of previously typed chars all at once.

No real problematic issues but I do notice that boot up/wake up/shut down times are definitely NOT faster and may be slower. Don't notice any other performance issues though. Any tips or suggestions there would be helpful.

Cheers

No real problems here once I removed software that was not fully compatible with SL (ie: on my network at home, I have a droboshare, and used drobo dashboard on my Mac pro - although the manufacturer said the version I had would work with SL, it caused problems, slow downs, and issues when shutting down/rebooting). I'd take a look at what else might be running and verify the drive and permissions if I were having slowdown problems...
