Hey, I have a MacBook5,2 with the polycarbonate model. I was thinking about sending it in when I can afford it and getting it turned into a ModBook. Is this a good idea or a bad idea?

Just curious, guys.

But, what is it that makes this better than what you already have, except for the screen, not much hardware changes, are there?

(not being sarcastic, I'm really asking:))

I agree with Sur3Mac, but to answer your question, there are a few more options in hardware. But I personally wouldn't get it because it is a non-Apple merchandise.

I think that it is mostly for people focused on digital arts. I thought it would be neat but the only bad thing is that they remove the keyboard. It's too bad it's not a convertible tablet otherwise I would definitely buy it.

"non-apple merchandise" what does that have to do with anything?, incase you did not know, apple's hardware break like everything else out there, just saying..

Oh, so it's not something you can flip back, and have a laptop again...
Who the heck would pay top dollar for that...

I'd rather keep it real.:)

Have to agree with Sur3Mac. I really can't see the point in this when you have a perfectly good and functional notebook.

Isn't that a subjective question?

Even if this product is aimed at digital artist, not having a keyboard is kind of a hassle.

I'm sticking to my wacom tablet.

Yes and no. For "typing" it would use some kind of handwriting recognition software, combined with an on board keyboard.

Because using a Bluetooth or even a USB keyboard is soo hard. And using an external keyboard would actually be better because then you can set the modbook up at a better height and angle to see.

i know but I usually like to keep things the way they are, im not too big on modifying electronics. hope my first post didnt come out the wrong way

Thanks for the input. I wasn't planning on getting it anytime soon, anyway. Hopefully Apple will come out with a tablet soon. I think the money would be better spent going towards a top of the line 13" MBP.

I agree. get the top of the line 13" it is small and portable. Wait for the tablet. Hopefully they come out with one... I bet they will.
