Not sure quite where this should go but here goes.

I've got a 120Gb internal hard drive and I need to get a backup drive. Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to get something like a 500Gb HD, partition it, and use one partition as a Time Machine backup disk, and the other for regular storage? Just thought I should check before buying, although it seems that anything 500Gb and below is about the same price-wise these days.

That sounds like a good strategy .... it will work very well.

Maybe consider a 3rd partition to create a bootable backup using SuperDuper!
(Time Machine backups are not bootable )

Cheers ... McBie

Ah that's an interesting idea, thanks.
