Can't find my Mac HD on desktop

Alright so I just got my Mac last week and made the switch from PC. I know the basics about Mac from using them at school, but never used Snow Leopard.

Well basically I was in Finder and dragged the "Mac HD" to my desktop so I can have it on there, when I dragged it it made this poof animation and disappeared..now I can't find it lol..so now under Devices all i see is iDisk and Firefox...help please

Open your finder prefs, top bar/finder/prefs.
There you can check or uncheck your drives and disks.
