DVD Drive makes a noise when macbook pro is turned on each time. Is this normal?

The dvd drive works and runs fine. When I turn my macbook pro on, it is the New 15" model if this makes a difference, the dvd drive makes a small noise, as a first time owner wanted to make sure this is normal?:)
