Apple Numbers Date

Can someone please tell me, why when i type a date in to a box in Numbers, for eg Aug 31, 2009, the date comes out at Aug-243-2009?

i cant seem to type in a correct date. help!!!!!!

okay, i changed something in language and text. now, when i wanna type aug 31 2009 it comes out as 31-Aug-2009. this is very frustrating. happened after i upgraded to SNOW LEOPARD

okay, i just realised, the problem only lies with one particular box. the other boxes work fine. anyone knows the reason??
