Clock -- Status Menu -- Cannot display medium or long view.

Back in the olden days of 10.5, I was able to go into International and block / copy the date format of my choice, then go into the time and paste my date preference before the time and put a space and two dashes and another space (e.g., Monday, August 31, 2009 -- 3:16 PM), then I could go into the time / clock preferences and uncheck day and date so that the abbreviated form did not show up any more). Well, Snow Leopard doesn't work like that and I'm stuck seeing "Mon Aug 31 3:16 PM", which I hate. Does anyone have a workaround so that I can see this instead "Monday, August 31, 2009 -- 3:16 PM"?
