losing photo's quality when imported to iMovie from iPhoto

I'm working in I-Movie 6.0.3 on a PowerBook G4 and my video file is ~20GB. When I drop my photos from I-Photo into I-Movie I am losing all of the photo's quality (the picture are very "pixelated"...is that a word?). Apple says they have trashed all their call support manuals and therefore can't help me. What could be going wrong or am I doing something incorrectly?

Chances are you are just dragging and dropping the thumbnail image from iPhoto- which means the small version of the image. iMovie will expand the photo to 1024x768 by default- so you will need to take the image file from Finder and drag it into iMovie. This will put it as the size of 1024x768.
