I thought this might be useful if you wanted do do a clean install with the Snow Leopard DVD.

______

Apple designed Snow Leopard 10.6 so that you cannot select 'Erase Install' when booting from DVD like in Leopard 10.5.

Apple states that you need Leopard 10.5 installed in order to 'Upgrade' or 'Install' Snow Leopard 10.6 - This is not true.

This guide shows you how to do a clean install of Snow Leopard 10.6. Extremely hand if you need to install a new hard drive.

Please note this was performed off the 'Upgrade' disk - which shouldnt [according to Apple] be able to do a full install!

I also outline how to migrate your data to the new install.

Let me know what you think.

Awesome video man!!!

I liked the "time compression" feature...cause obviously you don't want to have a 30-60 minute You-Tube video with the ENTIRE process! ;D

Nice little sound effect at the end as well!

A picture (or video) is worth a THOUSAND words!;D

Thanks,

- Nick

Is this with the full version of Snow Leopard or the upgrade version? What program did he use for his backup? Clonedrive?

Excellent video! Thank you for clearing that up...

Hopefully my copy will arrive Tuesday (said it was shipped Thursday too :( ) and I will defiantly be doing a clean install. I was hoping the procedure would be the same as in 10.5 but wasn't sure so thanks for that! :)

Apple states that you need Leopard 10.5 installed in order to 'Upgrade' or 'Install' Snow Leopard 10.6 - This is not true.

From a legal aspect, which I would assume Apple is taking here, you do need to have bought a license of 10.5 prior to using the $29 10.6 upgrade discs for the computer you intend to install on.

Thanks for the video. For those that do have a 10.5 license and want to do a fresh install of 10.6 off the $29 upgrade discs your video is helpful.

Thanks, I just thought I would make a video because a l needed to clear up a lot of speculation on certain forums.

A few things....

The disk I used was the £7 'Upgrade' disk that is distributed to people who purchased a new mac since June 09 [I bought a brand new MBP].

I used 'Superduper' to clone my drive before the install. Full details on how to clone your drive is in my Channel on Youtube [click in sig].

Oh, and here is the disk I used:
