older IMac

I just grabbed a 233 mhz Imac to fool around with until i get my PB in May and to get used to MAC OS. I have been told that mac os X wont run very well with it since it only has around 160 mb of ram. ANy quick suggestions that anyone has to make this a acceptable switch?

I got the same iMac for my fiancee w/256MB and it runs just fine for her. Every once in a while I'll get the beachball but runs it. Can't run too many apps at once. But web, word processing and email are fine on it

My three suggestions would be the following:

You can order 256 MB of memory from MacSolutions for $37.00.

Also, search eBay for "iMac VRAM" (if yours isn't already equipped with 6 MB). You can find the 4 MB VRAM upgrade chips for $7.00.

While on eBay, look around for a small HDD. You can find 10-15 GB drives for around $15.

For roughly $65-$70, you'll have a machine that will run OS X Panther quite happily and will be a nice, useful Mac that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

BTW if you're getting a larger HDD partition the first 7-8 gigs to install Panther into. It won't recognize w/o it

if your planning to get all those things, then you might as well buy a mac mini. almost the same price as upgrading, and way faster.
