Whenever I try to play a .wmv file by double clicking the file I get an error that say "quicktime player must be installed to run this application". It is installed. When I open quicktime and navigate to the file then it will play just fine. Am I missing a setting somewhere? This is a new problem for 10.6. It all worked fine under 10.5.

I figured it out. I had flip4mac installed but it is appearantly not need now with snow leopard. Uninstalled it and which removed it as the default player and now it works fine. Hope this helps anyone else with this same issue.

Yes, move the "WMV Player" app to Trash. I had to do that.

Cool. I noticed Flip4Mac was on the list as not working so well with SL, so it's a relief to know that I don't even need it now.

I am having just the opposite experience. I have 10.6 and QuickTime X installed and Flip4Mac. In QuickTime X Player I can play wmv files on my computer by clicking on them or from the internet by clicking on the link. I even tried pasting a link into Open URL and it works too.

After reading this post, I uninstalled Flip4Mac. I tested wmv files and I could not play any from any source. I then reinstalled Flip4Mac and I can play wmv files again using QuickTime X Player.

Ok now I have problems. After re-installing Flip4Mac I can not play wmv files by clicking on them. When I do, QuickTime X opens but nothing happens. I then tried pasting the link to the wmv files into QuickTime X. That worked but it took a long time for QuickTime to start playing the file. If I un-intsall Flip4Mac, I still can't play wmv files. Anyone has a solution?

Maybe just keep checking Flip4Mac's website to see if they release a new version or a "patch" of some sort to make it better compatible with 10.6.
Personally, I'm waiting to reinstall it once they do this.

So Flip4Mac is needed for QuickTime X? Do we have a definitive answer to this?

I took advantage of my former band member who works at Apple Store. I had him ask the genius bar people if I needed Flip4Mac for QuickTime X to play wmv and they said "YES".

That means mine is not working right. I think the problem might be third party software that I use that also uses Flip4Mac. I'm not sure. At least we know that Flip4Mac is needed (unless my friend is deceiving me!).

Like magic that worked!! I downloaded and installed the BETA from the Telestream site and now QuickTime X Player is playing windows media with no problem. So far this has been my only problem with 10.6 and now it's solved.
