I currently have 4x256 DDR SDRAM. I am wanting to add 4x1GB DDR SDRAM

I have 8 slots, I would like to know if the different sizes will be okay together. Or should I just remove the 256 sticks?

Thanks for any advice.

I would need to know the exact model Power Mac G5 that you own. There is a difference in the way modules can be inserted in the early 2005 model and the late 2005 model. Also, earlier than 2005 Power Mac G5 machines have less capacity for memory. Perhaps this site can help you decide.

Regards.

Thanks so much! Great site. Looks like I'll be okay as long as I install in pairs, up to 8GB

If you have a G5 1.8 dual processor with 8 ram slots...this is your computer:

Apple Power Macintosh G5 1.8 DP (PCI-X) Specs (Original/Late 2003 - M9393LL/A) @ EveryMac.com

The only instruction seems to be that you need to install ram in pairs. So it would seem that 4 x 256meg and 4 x 1gig for a total of 5 gig would be ok.
