lost mail password

I've never used my mac mail but now want to start. Apparently, when I first got my imac I did set up the mail. Now it's asking for a password, but I've tried every PW I've ever used (except, obviously, THIS ONE!!!) and none work. Is there a way to retrieve it?

I REALLY need to use this email account, so will appreciate big-time any help I can get.

Looks like you will have to setup a new Mail account. Just go to Mail > Preferences > Account Information. Otherwise try contacting your ISP, if you have not changed lately, and see if they have the password on file. Another suggestion is look at Keychain.

As was suggested contact your ISP. They can reset it for you.
