Hi,

So i've switched! Hardware is fantastic, software is impressive but there are a few things i havent found good alternatives for.

In XP i have a Media Player Classic + Codec pack combo that plays everything and anything, and does it neatly in one window, anything that good for OS X?

I tried VLC but the interface is a bit clunky..

Install Perian - it should give you support for most formats in QuickTime.

Ok so to report back, Plex is nice but its a full media center, a bit overkill. But i am giving it a go alongside XBMC for Media Center duty on a Mac Mini through HDTV.

However, for Macbook/iMac use, i've found Mplayer OSX Extended to be by far the nicest program to use for quick media playback. Quick to open, handles everything with a single codec pack. And my favorite feature, lets you skip 10sec at a time around a file using the arrow keys (such a vital feature!)

VLC. Period. I do have Perian installed, but there are times that it will choke on stuff. I loathe QT. VLC has NEVER EVER failed me with any codec.

Interface on VLC is a bit dated, i think the newest Mplayer is superior
