Grainy video from Canon HF10 to iMovie 09

Why is the "HD" video I record on my HF10 and import into iMovie 09 always look so grainy. I have changed video quality settings on the camera (from highest to lowest and back), I even set iMovie to import at the highest resolution possible. Not sure what else it could be. Could it just look grainy on my MBP's screen and look better on my big LCD screen (I doubt it but...) If anyone else has been having this same issue please let me know how you resolved it.

Have you checked the video with the camera directly hooked up to a TV? It is possible that the quality isn't the greatest as is - let's face it, looking at the little itty bitty lcd doesn't really give a good representation of the true image quality. I've seen footage out of my camera that I thought looked great, but looked very grainy due to the camera applying gain to the video signal and I didn't see it until later.

I would create a 10 second project and do an export to see the result. Perhaps upload a screen capture here. Use Grab.app in the Utilities folder.
