Please how do I remove non-called-for and unexpected
vertical black bars that 'pillar-box' a video student's video production?
This change in the aspect ratio affects only a part of the video project.
The video is edited on a Dual 2 GHz G5 PowerPC/OS X 10.4.11/7GB DDR2 SDRAM /2TB (internal + external HDDs).
DV-NTSC-Widescreen, iMovie 0.6.
Software is fully update, all permissions are repaired.
We have also run 'Onyx', 'Preferential Treatment', 'iDefrag' and 'Yasu'.
Only a segment of 7 minutes out of the 45 minutes project is affected
and shows a different aspect ratio with huge side black bars.
The compressed QuickTime (Pro) of the affected segment is ".MOVIE".
The compressed QT of the non-affected segments are all “.DV."
Please, step-by-step instructions will be heartily appreciated.

First, telling us that you have "iMovie 0.6" does not tell us what version of iMovie you have. I'm guessing iMovie 08, version 7.0.6.

The .MOVIE doesn't tell us much and I'm surprised that isn't .MOV.

I'd open the .MOVIE and DV files up in QuickTime and do a Command-I (get info) on the files. In the popup window you can see the size of the videos. Are they the same?

You mention widescreen. Is the .MOVIE file wide screen? If not, then it is likely 4:3 and the black bars are called for.

Maybe converting the .MOVIE file to a DV file with the same specs as the other DV files will help.
