Hello!

I recently bought an Apple Macbook for university (i'll be studying fine arts, majoring in photography at Whitecliffe university NZ), so it'll be mostly used to edit and display photos.

But, compared to my PC, photo's appear to be majorly lacking in saturation, the contrast is slightly duller, and images that are rich in colour on my PC (or other macs for that matter), look fairly flat and lifeless on my Mac.

So the easiest solution i think would be changing the colour settings, but how do I do that?

I know how to change the brightness of the screen, and i've been playing around with my colorsync profiles, but can't seem to get it right.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks

Windows computers usually have a gamma around 2.2 while Mac computers have a gamma around 1.8
Matte screens will also have less saturated images than Glossy screens.

To change your gamma, go under system preferences -> Display -> Color -> Calibrate.

If you're going to be editing photographs, you'll need to calibrate your monitor. If you lack a calibrator, the method on this website will work in a pinch.

Since you're majoring in photography . . .I'd most certainly purchase a good monitor calibrator.

By the way, the new OS X 10.6 uses a gamma of 2.2 by default.
