Anybody here into modified cars at all? I like subtly modified cars, and I am a member of the Astra Owners Network. I own a 2005 Astra SXi with a few little extras :)

I'm slowly building it up, but this is how it has been so far...

Started like this:

001hkh.jpg

I then fitted a few bits of stereo:

003alu.jpg

004llx.jpg

Unfortunately, all that stereo has been stolen since and I've gone back to a standard setup while I spend my money on more important things. There is a good Rockford Fosgate setup in the near future though :)

A few months later, I fitted some ice white angel eyes:

From a random photo shoot:

Next I fitted an Irmscher front grille. Irmscher, for those who don't know, are a German styling company who specialise in GM cars, mainly Opel/Vauxhall:

And that is how she stands today. Just today I have started work on a new boot strip. The chrome strip at the back is currently de-badged, but I am spraying a new one black to match the car, but then putting the silver/chrome badges back on to fill the bare space.

I have a list as long as your arm planned for the car, but once it is done, I have a feeling it will be stunning :D

Anybody else into modified cars? Anybody own a modified car? Would be great to hear from those who do! :)

Yeah, the first picture is what I started with. I upgraded the interior to add Navigation, video, ipod, colored aluminum trim, Focal, JL Audio and many other small modifications. On the outside I added Euro style impact strips (to remove the nasty yellow corner light), color matched door handles, new tail lights, new wheels, new grille, etc. etc.

Nice Astra, love the looks of those cars. Too bad they really haven't taken off here.

Orange Crush #375

Plain Jane 2008 Dodge Charger Daytona, albeit, with Challenger 20" rims...

web.jpg

Under the hood "before": 345hp/370tq "advertised" SAE at the crank, that's 284hp/325tq "real" at the rear wheel...

web.jpg

Some go-fast parts. Good, but not enough. Only 324hp/346tq at the rear wheels...

web.jpg

Dyno and tuning day. More parts and some major tuning...

web.jpg

Under the hood "after": 366hp/386tq (thats 440hp/465tq "advertised" SAE)...

Modifications and aftermarket:
  • 93 CAI Diablosport CMR Tune (By RDP Racing)

  • 20" x 9" Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Wheels

  • JBA Shortie Ceramic Headers

  • JBA Hi-Flow Cats & Mid-Pipes

  • Corsa Catback Exhaust

  • Front 4 Point Shock Tower Brace

  • Rear 2 Point Shock Tower Brace

  • RDP Ambient Air Intake

  • 265 ADV Camshaft (212/212 114 LSA) Franks Racing

  • 180° Thermostat

  • Performance MOPAR CNC Heads

  • Custom bored 85mm CNC throttle body by Modern Muscle

  • A Bunch of Billet Tech Crack Inside and Out with Some Carbon By Design CF Pieces as Well... :)

Now to get rid of the "tall" 2.82 gears and swap in some 3.23's and an LSD.

More to come... Aside from the rims, you'd never know she's not stock. I've eaten many an SRT-8 and GTO in my days.

I have an '05 Cobalt with a very nice stereo. Its the first thing that happens when I get a new car. Factory stereo gets pulled, and in goes the custom stereo.

In the dash I have a Pioneer GPS/DVD 7in touchscreen. All 4 corners have 3way Rockford Fosgate (RF) speakers, 6.5in in the front, 6x9s in the rear, and in the trunk, I have a RF 400watt 4 channel amp, and a RF 600watt mono amp running two 10in 300watt RF subs.

I can't stand what comes out of a factory stereo, there is absolutely no sound quality.

I have an 07 Cobalt,

31166960036_large.jpg

so far it has TONS and tons of LED's and other such interior lighting accents:

31166960010_large.jpg

31166960032_large.jpg

I got some halo headlights:

31166960004_large.jpg

I also made up some LED fog lights:

31166960024_large.jpg

Up coming mods may include: a new hood, a new spoiler, new rims, cold air intake, turbo, exhaust system (none ricey, maybe dual tip or something), switchback LEDs. Depends on how much money I get and when lol.

Stretch and Lankysean, what do you guys think of your Cobalts? My friend has an 08 and it is just the biggest pile of garbage I have ever seen. It is literally falling apart around her. Maybe she just got a lemon?

I don't really modify my cars besides upgrading the stereo, but I do appreciate a tastefully modified vehicle. So far the examples here are very nice. Too many kids drive around here in rusted out Neons with massive spoilers and cherry bombs and think they are so cool.

I like mine. I've had it for about 18 months now, and it's only been in the garage for two things. I've but about 20k on it since I got it. It's a huge improvement over the Cavalier.

It's peppy, and fun to drive, at least the manual model is. I'd like to upgrade the suspension so I can throw it around corners faster, but overall, I'd say it's an excellent purchase.

Same here, mine is an 07 with just over 22,000 miles and it's a real champ. I got the LT version with the 2.2L engine and it's a blast to drive... much better then the POS VW Golf I had before I got the cobalt... I still miss my old CRX though :(

Oh, and I have a cousin with an 05 cobalt with over 100,000 miles on it and it's the best car she's ever owned.

I thought it looked a bit like a VX220 :p A guy on Astra Owners Network has a yellow VX220 Turbo. He took me out in it once and my God does that thing shift! :p
