kernel panic

ok so i have a friend who is getting rid of his dual 800 the only problem is it has kernel panics even when he boots from the cd so what could be causing that.. would it be easy to fix?

PowerMac G4 Cube 450mhz 832mb
extension conflict Im guessing. is there new ram in it recently, could be bad ram. an erase and install of panther should fix it, unless its hardware related.
