My school switched to Macs this year and I have decided to switch to Mac as well. I cant decide between buying the 13" 2.53 Ghz MBP, the 15" 2.53 Ghz MBP, the 1.86 GHz MBA, or the 24" 2.66 GHz iMac. Any thoughts/ Suggestions.

I guess you really need to decide if you need a desktop or laptop. I don't think you need the 15", but who am I to say. Ultimately it is your decision based on your needs.

Go try them all out and see what fits.

How many of these threads do we get a week? As fun as it to ask "what computer should I get", it does get old.

If it's just the basic stuff then you don't really even need a 15" MBP. Save yourself some money and get a 13" MBP or a MB even.

If you decide to go the desktop route, you can't go wrong with an iMac.

Unless you are planning on going graphical a lot with high tech video games and Adobe CS4 or something, I wouldn't buy a macbook pro, I'd go for a macbook.

Well I can give some input to this thread as since June I have owned:

2009 MacBook White
Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13"
Late 2008 MacBook Pro 15"

If you want a portable machine that you take with you and use most places then the 13" will suffice.

However, if your like me and never need to be mobile then I think the 15" is the best option. You get a huge screen that I think is SO much better than the 13" [not quality wise but size]. No more squinting for me, and always rearranging the position of apps! Also, the speakers are amazing. I also like having the dedicated GPU [not std on the new 2009 MBP 15" though].

No, if you never need to be mobile, get the iMac; much cheaper and more powerful than the MBPs. Zero battery life though. :)

Fair enough! lol

I like to 'stowe' away my machines so no computer desk for me!

I just cant decide between the potability of the 13" or the screen size of the 15" or the ultra screen size of the 24". i want it to be portable, but i also want screen size.

Well, if you want portability the iMac needs to leave the discussion. If you want portability and screen size you need to pony up for the 17" MBP.

but then again, at 17in, portability kinda drops to pretty low. It's not easy carrying around a 17in laptop.

It depends on how you define "portable", it certainly isn't "easy" to carry around a 17'' laptop compared to a netbook, but it still is portable. It might be heavier and take up more space.

Just get the 13" MBP, fast enough for what you need, Portable, Stylish.
The 15" would sound like a waste to you, yes you may want power and speed but your talking about serious power you will never unleash with web surfing and school work.

Why buy a fast car if you can only leave it in first gear.
get the 13".

I would agree with BlooGrape. I bought a 20" iMac last year. Now that I've had a year of grad school, I really wish I had gotten a macbook
