Will a screen protector effect the touch screen at all? I got big fingers and just barely get by typing on the screen. Will a screen protector make it worse?

Put one on my iPhone prior to turning it on for the first time.
I can't therefore compare the before and after, but I have had no issues with using the touch screen over the last 20 months or so.
