says i only got 10gb of ram when its supposed to be 12gb

Hey everyone.I got a 3ghz dual core Macpro. I recently bought 4X2gb ram modules to add to the 4gb of 1gb ram modules on it but after installing the new ram it says i only got 10gb of ram when its supposed to be 12gb and on the riser card where i put the new Ram modules it shows 1 red light. Can anyone help me sort the problem out.
