You'll need a set of replacement discs (contact Apple, I've heard they run around $40) or you'll need to purchase Leopard, the latest version of OS X (assuming your Mac supports Leopard).

Once you've got the discs in hand, you can use a cheap, external DVD drive to do the install.

If your machine is a PowerPC, (PPC) you will have to look for a Firewire optical drive in order for it to be bootable as PPC do not boot, generally, from USB, even USB2.

Good luck and keep us posted?
