I just got a new macbook today, and whenever I open my macbook from it having been shut, turn it on, etc, the dvd player makes about 3 loud noises like it's trying to eject something. I'm not sure if I should contact apple, or maybe it'll just go away...

Anyone else had similar problems?

It won't go away. That is the typical sound of a slot load drive checking to see if there is a disk in the drive that it should mount.
Some are louder than others, but they all do it. I hadn't even noticed it in awhile and had to reboot just to check and make sure mine was still doing it.;D
