Considering what you're going to be doing with it...I would get the 2.26ghz model.

If you think that you need the space...upgrade the hard drive...the memory (ram) can be upgraded later, and probably more cheaply.

p.s. You probably didn't need to mention the "BOOTLEG" Windows XP part!

I have heard that a good way to look at this is just to double the number since we're talking about 2 cores. So 2.26 ghz X2 = 4.52, and 2.53X2 = 5.06. Based on price/performance, I bought the 2.26 ghz model, upgraded the ram and HDD and I'm very happy with the MBP.

The cpu has 2 cores, each at 2.26ghz. It's the equivalent of having a single core 4.52ghz.

:)

I'd still recommend the 2.26 ghz with a do it yourself ram upgrade. It will save you some, and you'll have a fine machine.

You don't have to send it out.

There are many videos that show easy, step by step directions. For instance, OWC.com has an installation video. It's quite easy - a piece of cake. I don't know how you'd phrase that in Britain, but it's easy, and it can give you satisfaction in doing it too. You just need the right sized screwdriver. Phillips#00.

Got mine at Amazon(USA) - $59.95. The price increased some lately.

do u have to send it to apple to get the upgrade or can a normal pc place do it? cost?

The hard drive is difficult to upgrade by yourself...upgrading the ram is easy.

That's why I recommended you get the hard drive upgrade when you purchase the computer (if you think you need the extra space).

The ram upgrade can wait. Not only because it's easy for the owner to do...but also cheaper than what Apple charges.
