Microsoft Office from MacBook to MacBook Pro

Can I move MS Office from an old computer to a new macbook pro? How exactly would I do it?

If you have your original install disk(s)...then it's easy!

May I ask how you installed Office on your Macbook in the first place?

As Nick advises use the Office install disc and a clean install and activate the code on the back of the pack/CD cover. If you do not have the disc purchase Office 2008.

A group of friends and I bought the multiple license software and the cds were passed along and I'm not sure who has the disks now. This was a couple of years ago....I have the new office installed on my macbook pro, but this change of computers is for my sister who's going away to college.

Well get her to buy it.

So if you want to be totally legal...how many of those "licenses" are left after passing around the install disk among the "group of friends"...and if this installation is for your sister...does there happen to "conveniently" be one install license left?

Of course this discussion is pointless if you don't have or can't get the disks...unless you can check with the friends to see who has the disks.

Otherwise as has already been suggested...somebody needs to buy the software. If your sister is heading to college...students can usually get a decent discount.

Well I figured nothing's perfect! ;D

That's not the answer i was looking for...you know what happens when you assume things, right.

I transfered all the information from my old macbook to my macbook pro when you sync them. I wanted to know if you could partially do this without having to sync the computers then erasing all the unwanted information.

I don't play that game either, some of you apparently don't know you can buy a "5 license CD."

This forum should be for constructive information not a place for people to insinuate or pass judgement.

Firstly, we are very aware of what versions of Office are out there. The most common MS Office multiple license I have seen is 3 users. I have not read that license though and wonder if Friends can use it or is it like Apple and only immediate family?

Secondly, did you read the rules here? We have a right to have rules here and have people making sure they are not being broken. No one knows what you are doing on your end. The rules here protect our forums from the law and we do not allow any discussion of piracy in any way, shape or form at all.

We have a right to ask what you are doing as we have pirates all the time trying to get free software.

I'm not questioning your right to ask, it's the way people do it that does not come across in the right way. Moreover, ask away but ask away in an objective and professional manner, this behavior would be ideal for this forum don't you think?

You can buy a 5 license bundle and share it with whomever you like.

There are the rules for volume licensing. Friends are not mentioned.

That's not what I bought chief....I bought the multiple licenses straight frome the Apple store. Multiple computers, friends and family, the point is everyone paid and did not pirate the software.

There is no "5" license pack for MS Office for the Mac. You buy a boxed copy and receive 3 install serial numbers. The only multiple license pack that MS has for Office for the Mac is a volume license available to ITs and other businesses.

Not saying the OP is "blowing smoke" but it doesn't appear MS has changed their licensing policies for Mac Office.
