Hello,

Purchased a new 2 X 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Xeon and the fan noise is loud!

Runs loud even without apps open (after they are closed, starts up quiet enough) This is especially in comparison to the 2 X 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon that it is replacing.

Anybody else experiencing this?

BTW I do have three PCIe cards in the box's slots but they were in the old Mac Pro as well and didn't give me any noise.

Thanks for the feedback!

Wayne

Since the machine is new, give Apple a call and make an appointment for them to look at it. You could have a bad fan bearing or possibly a defective thermal sensor. No sense speculating, however. Take it on in.

Regards.

Returned the machine for another one. This one is much quieter! PS: at the store other owners were returning machines for the same problem apparently.

Wow...thanks for the update! I'm a Mac Pro user, and definitely find that interesting!

Thanks,
