Two 1tb External HD's Stopped Working!

Thanks for checking out my thread.

I am having some weird stuff happen with my external HDs and was wondering if any of you had experienced anything along these lines?

I am using a MacBook Pro with OSX. I have two external HDs, one Lacie Big disk 1tb and one Freecom 1tb. Last month the Freecom kept going to 'sleep', especially during transfers and refused to 'wake up'. I tried pretty much everything and eventually had to erase it with DiskUtiltiy. It still doesn't work properly. I put this down to bad luck until today when my Lacie refused to mount and won't repair or verify in DiskUtiltiy.

Does anyone know if there is a Mac issue which might cause this? Or is this just double bad luck?

Sadly, just double bad luck by the sound of it. There are no OS issues that would be the likely cause.
