I have a 2-year old MacBook Pro with its original Tiger OS. Is it possible and/or advisable to skip Leopard and jump to Snow Leopard or do I need to upgrade in increments?

Which version of Tiger?
This is from the Apple's site regarding SL:

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set (when available), which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

Hope that helps.

It will most certainly be possible. However, you will not be eligible for the reduced upgrade price of $30 (available only to Leopard users) but rather will have to pay full retail price, which should be around $129.

I bought the SL upgrade last month and did clean install from Tiger. It works fine, but you dont get the fancy other stuff incl. in iLife like Garageband Iphoto ect. But if you can do without, I wouldnt bother, unless you have an extra 90 bucks burning a hole in pocket

What you did & are suggesting is a violation of the Apple EULA!

No. You must have an Intel processor.

What about regular Leopard? I only ask because Amazon has it for sale and claims I can, but I want the truth not salesmanship...

What about regular Leopard?

For those who don't want to follow the excellent link and just want a quick answer: You don't need an Intel processor for 10.5 Leopard.

Thankyou. I did follow the link. The tech info was great, but proved a dead end for helping me acquire it(10.5 Leopard). Do I have to go to 10.5 first or can I skip directly to 10.5.6 ?

You can "skip" directly to 10.5.6.

As many have speculated, Apple has added no technical limitations to the install process to prevent the $29 standard Snow Leopard disc from installing on a Mac running Tiger. The information was confirmed in an early review of Snow Leopard by All Things Digital's Walt Mossberg published late last night. "Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140" over the Mac Box Set, Mossberg wrote.

$29 Snow Leopard retail disc will install over Tiger

Yes but as we have mentioned on many occasions to you, that violates the OS X EULA:
If you have purchased an Upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard license, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer as long as that computer has a properly licensed copy of Mac OS X Leopard already installed on it.
