Bootable CD using Data Rescue II

I am trying to make an emergency bootable CD to recover my files using Data Rescue II. The problem is, that when I make the CD using the the .dmg file, and I boot with it, it says that there is not enough space in the drive. It's supposedly 4.0 Gigs and it has 2.7 Gigs free, how do I fix this? Thanks so much!
