All, I am not sure this is the right place to ask this question. Since I could not find any appropriate place, I am posting it here.

I just bought an AppleTV. I have Pioneer Elite A/V receiver. When I connected AppleTV to the receiver I don't see a picture. I do hear audio though. If I connect to TV directly, everything is fine.

Did anyone see this problem before?

Thanks in advance.

HDMI or component to the receiver? Have you tried the other one? What is your exact A/V receiver model?

I tried two scenarios so far
1) Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVI
ATV is connected to PE via HDMI
PE to TV connection is regular RCA (I still have one of those tube TVs).

This scenario works with my PS3 and Toshiba DVD player with HDMIs without any problems.

Scenario 2)
ATV to Monoprice HDMI switcher(hub) HDX-501 via HDMI obviously
HDX-501 is connected to Toshiba 720P TV via HDMI
In this scenario also NO Picture.

Still doing trial and errors.

Thanks in advance.

Scenario 2 worked. I just had to reset everything and start from scratch. Still not sure what's up with scenarion 1.

Very few CRT type TV's would handle 720p did you try 1080i it would be the same for cable boxes when the screen goes black another resolution has to be
set.

Here is a quick question. Do you guys think we have to have a TV that can display some sort of HD (480P/i or 720p/i or something else)? My thought was since I have this receiver in the middle which can down covert HDMI to RCA (it did in case of DVD player), I thought I would be fine. But so far..no luck.

I always though the TV had to be HD.

That is true for sure if you are connecting ATV to a TV directly. As far as ATV is concerned the client (Pioneer Elite) here takes HD and is connected via HDMI. Whether the AV receiver transmits this to TV as a HD or SD, that's AV receiver problem, right? At least that's what I am thinking..
