panther seems to be at a stable build 7B74, and Apple knows where the target bugs are that need fixing. my guess is mid oct to mid nov. if you buy a mac, you should get any mac update within 90 for $20 if not free, i dont remember how it works.

I've heard many different thing about the release date. The most recent however is 10/25. There seems to be a big Apple Store event planned for that day according to the rumor sources. So we'll see if that's true....

I was just wondering. Anything that run jaguar now, will be able to run Panther? Or are we going to lose some hardware in this upgrade.

I know that panther will later on run 64 bit. I think the initial revision 10.3 will have both 64 and 32 bit binaries. Later version of Mac OS X will must likely be only 64 bit. But I think at this time both binaries will be included.

no... Panther is 32 bit... but is also optimized for the G5.
Anything without USB cannot run Panther, meaning Beige G3's suck the bullet now.

I know that Panther is 32 bit. I believe there will be some 64 bit binaries included in the first build of panther. To be optimized, you have tpo have some 64 bit binaries included. I say this with past experience in mind. When sgi created their 64 bit IRIX operating system, and when IBM created their 65 bit AIX operating system.

O they will support 32bit machines in a single version of the OS probly atleast until 10.4 or 5, Though they may be weeding out the lower machines as they go.
Or they may just come out with 10.3.3 32bit and 10.3.3 64bit. One thing I do know is they will not drop the 32bit users on their asses.

If they do like sgi did. Both versions 32 and 64 bits came together at one point. Then they started dropping hardware.
