G'day folks,

ARRAGH!!!Last weekend I knocked a glass of Coke (with a small amount of vodka in it!) onto my ibook keyboard. I thought the world had ended there and then....
After quickly soaking up most of the drink I turned the ibook on its side and some liquid poured out, which from reading other peoples experiences was the thing to do...Next a friend got a hair dryer and we dried it off as quickly as poss and left it overnight (switched off)...much to my delight it still worked next day...(lesson learnt)... Only problem is the keys are a bit sticky.

Ahhhh....
I have removed the keyboard an cleaned underneath, all good so far...the only issue is the keys are sticky

Help!...how do I safely remove the keys and clean them and safely replace them?...Has this happened to anyone? How did you sort it out?

Yep, that happened to me. Remove the keys from left to right or in reverse. Okay, now how to clean the keys. I took keys and rubbed them down with rubbing alcohol. Then I got one of those ears cotton swabs and dipped it in the alcohol and rubbed the area clean, where I had removed the keys from the computer. That should help mostly.

Thanks M8, yeah it happened to the off-the-shelf ibook keyboard, not a peripheral...I suppose you can buy rubbing alcohol from a regular computer store or is it a specialist product from a major computer outlet?

Rubbing alcohol is basically a 70-90% solution of diluted isopropyl aclohol, nothing fancy. You should be able to pick it up at the local grocery store. Do they call it something different in Australia?

Oh, I thought that you mentioned something about the iBook, but then I thought that I read it wrong, when you posted the thread under powermac. Doesn't matter! So I thought you had a standard Apple keyboard. So anyways. Remove the keys from left to right or in reverse. But be very observant of how the hinges are positioned, because they're a nightmare to put back into position sometimes.

Heh, figured it was worth asking. I went for days before I figured out that "spit the dummy" was referring to a pacifier. :)
