Hey when I try to insert a blank dvd into my drive it hums and spins for a bit, but then is spit back out. Is this because I have no software on my comp that deals with a blank dvd being inserted?

How old is your Macbook? I checked the specs for all Macbooks with a C2D CPU and there is a 2.0 Ghz C2D Macbook with a Combo drive. A Combo drive only reads DVD but will not write to them and would for sure spit out a blank DVD.

Click on the Apple in the top left corner and on About This Mac, then click on More Info. Click on Disk Burning. See what is says the drive supports and report back.

Your machine will only "read" a DVD not write to it. As dtravis7 suspected. :)

However, you can always purchase an external DVD burner as they are not expensive. Most any good external DVD writer will work with your MacBook.

Regards.
