I just brought my iBook to the Genius Bar and was told that the battery needed to be replaced as the battery icon showed that the battery wasn't charging.

So I bought the new battery and I've had it charging for a few hours now...but the same issue is occurring. The battery icon keeps going back and forth, showing that it's running on the adapter, then the battery, then adapter, and so on. In the pull down menu, it says the battery isn't being charged.

What's going on here?

Is your iBook covered by Apple care? Take it back to the genius bar and let them see what's happening. I suspect that it's not the battery which is at fault but the power input controller itself. Your original battery may still be OK.

Regards.

No...my iBook is about 4.5 years old now, so it isn't covered. I'm heading back on Monday.

It does charge when its in sleep mode, but that's all. It doesn't charge the battery when the computer is off or when I'm actively using it. So annoying.

Thanks for the advice!
