Sorry if this is the wrong topic, and I'll probably sound really stupid from this, but if I buy a Mac OS X disc, would I be able to install it on my Windows XP computer?

No, you can't.
If you want to get a hang of OS X, I would suggest getting hold of an older model Mac and using it to learn on.
Attempting to install OS X on anything besides Apple hardware is against the EULA for OS X and not up for discussion on these forums.
