Hosts File

When I edit the hosts file under /private/etc it works fine for me as admin. but as a user I can no longer log into any https: site.

You're going to have to change the file permissions. Normally the "hosts" file is read only. And by the way, probably should not be messed with since a wrong entry is going to prevent the loopback.

I have edited it for my use several times and it works fine for me. However when any other user logs on it block all Secure pages.

Strange indeed!

It's assumed you used pico/nano or vi to edit the file is that correct?
