i own a late 2006 macbook pro, turned it on and only a folder with a question mark in it blinks. I thought it might be a logic board but it looks like a bad HD. got a new HD and best buy might install it today. They arent sure 100% it is the HD . Seems like my research is leading me to believe it is the HD though, any thoughts?

A folder with a question mark means the OS cannot be loaded. Either the HD is actually broken, or you just need to reinstall OS X.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Boot from the install DVD, and go to Utilities and run Repair Disk and see what is reported there. A great little utility is SMARTReporter which sits in the menu bar and advises condition of the drive.

corecode->SMARTReporter
