I have a white macbook that is about 2 years old. I want to upgrade from a 160gb hdd to 500. Does it make a huge difference to get 16 mg cache and 7200 rpm or will 8/5400 be more than sufficient.

7200rpm is the way to go. There are a ton of posts on how to replace the hard drive. Good luck.

The higher the cache, the better it will perform. A 16mb cache on a 5400 RPM drive will feel the same if not faster than a 8MB/7200RPM drive.
