My downloads go straight into the trash....?

Okay so for some strange reason my downloads have recently started going straight into the trash folder instead of onto the desktop, I may have caused this to happen but I'm not sure how and I don't know how to change this.

What browser are you using for downloading? Safari?

if you are using safari go to preferences and in general tab you can change the download folder...hope it helps.....

Yes I am using Safari and the downlods folder is already set to downloads. The thing is, the downloads do go to the download folder but they usually also go to the desktop, but now they go to the trash instead. This still happens...
