• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I created a bunch of .mov files using iMovie and they play just fine on my MacBook Pro. I copied them across the network to my MacPro and they play fine. However, I need to get them onto a memory stick and get them off to my customer but only 2 out of the 5 will copy over to the memory stick and play from there. They copy over OK but unlike the working 2 there is no preview and when I launch them I get "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie" or this is not a valid Movie. I am trying to launch in Quicktime. Funny thing is I have converted to DivX and still get the same problem. Any help would be gratly appreciated

How big are the two files that don't work? What kind of bit rate is the encoding at? Can the memory stick you are using support that speed of bit rate? Have you tried copying the offending files to a different storage device and playing them? Have you made sure the proper codecs were on the other machines you were taking the files to?

Just some initial thoughts on your issue.

Don't play or open things directly from a memory stick. That's just asking for trouble.

Copy the file to the desktop on the computer you are working on and then open and play it.
