So another one of these philosophy discussion threads.

So to you what finishes the journey from boyhood to being a man. As for my self I still consider my self a boy, I have not done anything worthy of being called a man/ gentleman.

Participate in real and abrupt human life and death decisions, up close, non-voluntarily and dependent on your personal actions... and the aftermath. That will wipe the innocence away pretty quickly.

When I posted in the Man Thread, that's when I knew I became a real man.

That's more like a tool than any thing else. >_>"

Living on your own for the first time is a good start. The first time you drink tequila is a good marker too ;). If you want to be boring, it's 18 years after you're born.

You mention that you, "have not done anything worthy of being called a man/ gentleman". What do you consider to be worthy of "manhood"?

For me I consider your are a man when you devote yourself to something other than your self, your devotion to your family, to your research, to something greater than yourself. Also when your happyness comes from those around you.

When you act like you have some common sense, exercise self-control, think about someone other than yourself, accept responsibility, and consider the consequences of your actions.

Being on your own or having a woman/family to care for aren't really factors. They can help you mature and be a man, but being a real man is not dependent on those things.
