I have been dubbing my VHS home tapes to DVD's using a DVD-VCR combo unit. The DVD's play fine into the DVD player but once inserted into my macbook, it says "you have inserted a blank disc". What do I need to do for my MAC to recognize the DVD I am inserting? The MAC DVD players works fine for commercial DVD's.

Are you making sure you finalise the discs when you finish in the recorder? They won't play in anything other than the recorder if you don't.

Ok. Have you tried using a different program to view on instead of DVD player.
Try it in VLC Player to see if it shows.

Also, are you running the latest software? Further more, what's the video format you are trying to play? Will the converted file itself work?
