tltl: You might want to explain a bit of how you did what you did - Although your post is old, and was resurrected by a blatant ad - it should be an easy problem to fix:
1) Mpegstreamclip will work just fine to convert flvs for imovie (yes, I tested it on a flv I extracted from youtube) - to do so, take the flv, drop it into the mpegstreamclip window. Once it's loaded - go to File, Export to Quicktime. On the window that comes up, you may want to crank up the quality a bit other then that, when done click the button at the bottom right to save/convert.
2) In iMovie - don't try to drag and drop the file into the interface. Click File, near the bottom select import movie, find the movie with the dialog box that appears and import it.
3) You will now have your video imported into iMovie ready to go.
I have tested this procedure using mpegstreamclip and iMovie 08.

I tried that and still no sound. Its very strange cause it clearly gives an option for sound, I tried them all and still every format is silent. My first thought would be that you don't have sound source selected from the file, on the export window, there is a sound option dropdown - you may want to make sure you don't have "no sound" selected.
If your converting flv to MOV, i use Quicktime pro.
Open the flv with quicktime(You need perian) and then go to the quicktime file menu and click save as easy as that
