Pictures not showing up to see...what did I do how to fix it ?

This recently started happening to my Mac. When I download pictures onto my computer, the picture doesn't show up, but it is replaced by the JPEG Image.(The picture of the little child and the magnifying piece) My picture doesn't show up unless I double click it and it opens with Preview, so for now, all of my pictures are not viewable unless I open them one by one. HELP!!!
