hi guys. i am trying to resurrect some old macs for my uncle who used them many years ago with various autocad and design programs. he wants to be able to access all of his old files. i've cannibalized a few of the machines (various power pcs and a few beige G3s) and have one working G3. i have accessed all of the files and compiled them onto one dvd for backup purposes. in the meantime the main hdd failed and so i bought a new one. i am trying to install mac OS 9 onto the machine and the CD drive is not being recognized by the computer. it simply refuses to boot from the retail OS disc. i've tried holding down "c" at startup to no avail. i have also tried "shift+cmd+option+del" also to no avail. all i get is a flashing folder with an alternating question mark and happy mac face.
the new hdd also has OS 9 installed on it, but it will not boot that way either. it just shows the same flashing folder. i figure it may be the jumper settings on the hdd or cd drive, or even a bad motherboard, but the computer was working a few weeks ago. any ideas?
