Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about setting up a new machine for my parents (it's awfully old right now) and the only thing I think I'm missing is Office. Now, my parents are used to Windows and as such, it's going to stay that way. Right now, I have the machine and the Windows licence.

As it currently is, I have a copy of Office 2008 Home and Studnet which, as many of you may know, comes with three keys. My plan is to install the Office 2007 Home and Student demo and use one of my Office 2008 Home and Student licences. Is it possible to use a 2008 licence in 2007 and is this legit?

Thanks.

I seriously doubt it will work, knowing Microsoft. You can't use an XP Home key on XP Pro, or an XP Home SP1 license on XP Home SP2, so I imagine Office will be the same. You could always install OpenOffice.

It won't work. The key for Office 2008 is not valid for the 2007 install media.

I would agree with the 2 other posters. From all my experience with Microsoft products, product keys seem to be very tied to a certain version of the product, so I doubt it will work. If it did I was be very surprised.

Amazon currently has the Office 2007 Home and Student version for $89.99. That's about as inexpensive as I've seen it for. Link

As far as using one of your Office 2008 keys to activate Office 2007, that's a no, no. The secret police from Redmond will be knocking at your door. :)

Regards.

That is a great price, granted that they do not need Outlook. I hate all the different versions of Microsoft software.

I figured that was the case. It does make sense as they are two different products but in some respects, the "same". I'm not surprised but I was trying to see if there was a way to utilize the extra keys that came with Office 2008 that I will never use. So, if it is indeed against the EULA or law in some respect, I will refrain from doing so.

I appreciate all the input everyone.
