How do I add page numbers to either headers or footnotes? But not on the first page. I didn't see it mentioned in Help.

I just fought with this four almost an hour.

After your title page or content page choose INSERT >> SECTION BREAK

Then click anywhere in the text on the page where you want your page numbering to start (NOT in footer or header).

In the Inspector choose LAYOUT INSPECTOR (2nd from left in Pages '08) and choose SECTION. Here you can choose which number to start at. Also deactivate "Use previous headers & footers".

This worked for me, except that the SECTION BREAK made a ~2" top margin on the page where I wanted to start the page numbering. I'll try to fix that somehow as well.

Hahaa, in the Layout tab under LAYOUT INSPECTION Pages had added a 3.75 cm margin BEFOR the new section I added. I just changed this to 0 and voilá. The writing can continue!
